A native of Sarasota, upon graduation from a local high school, served four years in the US Navy. After discharge, earned an Associate in Arts (AA) and Associated in Science (AS) degree in Criminal Justice from Manatee Junior College. He also served as church school teacher and Superintendent at Payne Chapel A.M.E Church. Johnnie retired from the United Parcel Service (UPS) after 39 years. He has been a part of the Brotherhood of Men Mentor group for the last 5 years. He has also volunteered as a Guardian Ad Litem for the last 1.5 years as well. Johnnie has been married for 42 years, father to four children, and proud grandfather to 15 children.
